The voters have spoken: Play nice or else

It is always hoped that those shaping the destiny of our country will "play nice" not because "or else" but rather
because its the most effective way to go forward.

Play nice by focusing on finding what you agree can be done, by arriving at consensus and acting upon this and
then going next to matters where there is the highest level of agreement and so on.

The most destructive path to follow is beginning with the irreconcilable where the threat of force majeure must
be employed for one view to prevail over another.

Last night Stephen Harper spoke eloquently of the directions he would be taking as the Leader of our country.

The Press Release that follows was influenced by what he said, working together being the theme in order to
be moving forward a Canada united, strong, independent and free.

He spoke to-day of addressing the economic problems that affect us all.  In this he kept his word.

You may believe alteration of the nature of the Senate is essential to  the Canada he would lead us to, I do not.

Does raising this much disputed issue as a matter to be addressed auger well? Is it in the direction of finding common
ground or of repeating the path of the dysfunctional 39th Parliament that was the stated cause for the election of the 40th?

Sad to have to raise this matter -  but it is one of the tasks of an Advocatus Diaboli .

"Finding common ground promised"

For Immediate Release October 15, 2008

Newmarket, Ontario-
Prime Minister Stephen Harper in his acceptance speech spoke of working together for Canada's benefit, of joining together with other parties in acting to weather the economic crisis. He spoke of being inclusive and responsive to all Canadians, of moving forward a Canada united, strong, independent and free.

The reason given by the Prime Minister for the still contested calling of the election was that the 39th Parliament was dysfunctional.
In his speech, however, he stated a contradiction: he said it had been shown that "minority government can work" and that "it can again" when it had not.

It is to be hoped that Stephen Harper's words stressing cooperation are the basis of his actions in the coming Parliament rather than past performance and that his meetings with the leaders of the other Parliamentary parties lead to determining common ground in taking steps for the well being of Canada and Canadians.

The twofold role of opposition parties is to question the failings of those charting the course of our country and to offer positive alternative actions.

The Progressive Canadian (PC) Party will continue carrying out both these necessary tasks.
