Subject: Reintroduce passenger rail service to western Canada -
http://www.gopetition.com/online/20036.html

This has a petition site for people to head to if they can see their way fit to do so... Your help would be appreciated by publishing this on your site.

Tom Brewer

There was a hue and cry in the 90's when the Conservative government decided to cut passenger rail service on the south route of the CPR rail line. It did not matter… service was gone. Cities like Regina, Moose Jaw, Swift Current and even Calgary lost passenger rail service.

Here we are in 2008 in need of links given the high cost of fuel and no thought is given to re-implement service.

Harper's Conservatives will not address how airlines price service. Taxes are added to everything. God help you if you have two bags that costs extra. Meals will likely be affected along with whatever beverage you might assume would be served. Our Conservative government does not care one iota. The added costs have GST added… meaning more and more money to the government.

Simply put and in my opinion the government does not have the intestinal fortitude to help its citizens.

The main line of the CPR we helped pay for as taxpayers. The railroads were given perks including miles of land on each side of the center of the tracks. I dare say the CPR exploited the rights including the vast coal reserves in BC.

What did we Canadians get? A swift kick in the rear and the largest snub ever, in my opinion.

Today, we could use passenger rail service on this route. It could be a way for consumers to take the bite out of higher and higher gas costs. Yes rail is slower however there are other benefits we fail to see.

This main line was built and paid for many times by Canadians. Now it is like a private rail line only carrying the rail companies commodities to customers.

In my opinion we must reinstate service. I am sure given all of today's computers we could use both lines… the CN in the north and the forgotten line in the south to the countries advantage. If we promoted our rail service it would be used. Simply put if you provide poor service customers will drop you like a rock.

We must hire people who are interested in growing rail service. We do not need people in charge who care less and only look to take home a large pay cheque.

It is far past time for our government to decide to improve services rather than always opting for what big companies want.

It is time we worked to rebuild what we had.

I would ask those interested in helping to re-introduce passenger rail service to sign the petition you find at http://www.gopetition.com/online/20036.html
