THE QUESTION

Simply put, do you agree or disagree with this statement concerning the Conservative Party of Canada

THE RESPONSE
j, a very unconstructive question. my answer is that there are really
only two political parties in canada, the ins and the outs. for many
politicos this is too simple, but i like it because either one
supports the government or opposes it. the opposition benches are
where one finds the nuances in political parties, all competing to win
the public confidence. but the tories have it, the grits oppose well,
both parties are centrist, and when one goes out the biggest changes
are in the governing teams, not the principles. or do some prefer
nationalizing steel, and denationalizing steel, etc as the brits did
so stupidly for so long/1 cz

THE RESPONSE TO THE RESPONSE TO THE QUESTION

Thank you cz for responding to the question posed.

You see "the ins and the outs" as being both "centrist". And
when "when one goes out the biggest changes  are in the
governing teams, not the principles."

My view is the Conservative Party of Canada is not centrist
- and that this is so in more than one way.

Having earlier in a response to Ron said I would make the case
and not having had time to do so I'm going to cease and desist
- aside from inviting others to express views on your positioning.

I may be alone, however, in seeing matters differently than you
in which case no debate at present.

The US direction is to one ruled by the people. The bailout is one of give it to the people, business has had enough.

The Canadian direction is the opposite.  Let business set the direction, and sell off Canadian assets!

Only time will tell us who is right, but we could not have a better chance to review our future compared to others.

Hi Joe,

This is but one flaw in a head-in-the-sand budget that also virtually ignores both the economic situation and global warming. Both Ignatieff and Harper prefer to fiddle the tunes of the corporate establishment that have gotten us where we are rather than show any leadership while the planet comes to both a figurative and literal boil...

What that means to me is that higher education (like much else) has been shaped by reductionism to the point that it should really be called "training" rather than education.

Even our universities - let alone our community colleges - no longer make any pretense of producing broadly educated people who have some grasp of history, philosophy and the arts. They are mostly just training people to do particuilar jobs.

Gandhi's 7 Social Sins describe almost every aspect of our society all too clearly. Those I have italicized are directly related to the system of education; the others are also related, indirectly:

Politics without Principle;
Wealth without Work;
Commerce without Morality;
Pleasure without Conscience;
Education without Character;
Science without Humanity;
Worship without Sacrifice

his month armed British and French nuclear subs collided - said to be a one in a million incident.  Of course, if we keep rolling the dice long enough, accidents should be expected.  In addition to the estimated 26,000 nuclear weapons still operational, we may soon find these weapons also deployed in space where American and Russian satellites also recently smashed together.  How many more warning shots will we get?   The world needs better political and judicial means of settling conflicts.  For example, we could have a World Court with mandatory jurisdiction for states, and we could have a Parliamentary Assembly at the UN that helps build trust among peoples to enable gradual disarmament.   Of course, some may feel this path is also a gamble.  But isn't developing human co-operation a better bet than chancing human destruction via nuclear catastrophe?

P.S. I mean, if guys like Bourque can make a living off 'he said, she said', I think we can both make our careers out of this. Plus, we'd be performing a public service: politicians, governments, and media would have to raise their game to survive our onslaught.

Joe,

There is one thing about Barack Obama that I find quite troubling. He refers to himself as African-American, Colin Powell refers to him as African-American, EVERYONE, including the media refer to him as African-American.

But he is not, at least not completely. His mother was caucasian. Obama is of mixed race.

One must suppose that the reason for the false recognition of his genetics is the fact that in America it has always been the case that if you have any African blood at all, you are African. And the reason for this, of course, is America's racist past. And, evidently, its continued racist present.

It would have been wonderful, to be sure, to see America elect a President of purely African descent. But would it not have been even more wonderful to see America elect a person of mixed race? Would this not have been an even greater refutation of racism than simply electing a person of purely African descent?

The fact that Obama himself perpetuates this myth, this lie, is especially troublesome to me. What else is he, and will he lie about if he is so willing to degrade himself in a racist manner and accept everyone else doing it as well?

Would it not have been better if Obama had said, look, in America up until now it has always been the case that if a person has any African blood they are considered African, this racist stereotype must stop, I am of mixed race?

Years ago the media made a huge fuss about the best golfer in the world being of African descent. That is, until Tiger Woods made it clear to the media that he was of mixed race.

When a society is willing to accept and continue with such an outrageous lie, and when a society has a President who is willing to accept and continue with such an outrageous lie, one must be very wary about what it will do next. I am sure it will not be long before we find out.

Please do not call me a racist. The racists are those who refer to Obama as African-American, rather than what he truly is. And this includes the President of the United States himself.

It cost us millions to have these two puppets stroking each other.  They

I am sorry--I cant read, watch or listen to anything pertaining to this
