most of all is the way our National News Is Presented on Both CTV and CBC.
They use diatriube like " All Canadians Were Outraged with what Ahenakew
originally said" ALL CANADIANS??. And they read the news article as
everything Ahenakew said was "HIS OWN IDEA". I recall how the story went
down at the beginning " Ahenakew said he was TOLD BY GERMAN PEOPLE,.
when he was serving in The Canadian Armed Forces In Germany, everything
that he repeated that fateful evening. We Cannot get the truth. So who
owns The Media,Court System and Politicians? Why cant we even be honest
with ourselves about that?

Let's hope the US retains promotion of democracy as a major foreign policy goal. But will other countries see US initiatives as the true promotion of democratic values, or only a tool of US political and economic interests? One step the US could take is to support the gradual democratization of decision-making at the United Nations. For example, if the UN General Assembly were to set up a consultative Parliamentary Assembly, this body would then challenge non-democratic states to participate, and could train a whole new generation of parliamentarians from those countries that decided to take part. It would also isolate those states that declined. Now if the United States supported and were actively involved in such a proposal, it would demonstrate that the US is prepared to practice what it preaches, a nation that leads by tough example rather than mere empty rhetoric.

Hi Joe, Just a quick note on an article that I have read. It sounds to me that the changes to the Navigable Water Act may have been started by B.C.'s Premier Cambell. Sounds right to me, since Campbell has been in power, living in rural BC, is very difficult. It is almost as hard as living in NL. Here is the link: http://tinyurl.com/clhu93
I had to laugh, Campbell using the tactic of Ottawa getting in the way of development, and the act does not represent the 21st century. Its this tactic, among others that are being used to get rid of our common law and rights. In today's world, Canadians have forgotten about common law, and how people have certain rights crossing land, waters and activities that we have a legal right.
Remember, how many small towns had commons and now few exist as they were once were. Federal parks prevent people from picking or even eating a berry. In NL, there is always a few people who are charged for eating or picking berries. No doubt, it is happening right across Canada in all federal parks.
The feds have done this in the name of environment, but I think it is a move to make it easier for provinces to also adopt the laws, so rural parts can be exploited for their resources. All a premier will do, is to point to the federal laws, to change the provincial act. I call it making laws to suit the elite, by controlling the populace of where one can go, the activities, and to keep people away from land they may or may not be going under some type of development or exploration of its resources.

Dear Joe: I haven't seen much in The Digest on the windy developments, but I think it's obviously important. Here's my take on it. Ross Bateman
Faith in industrial wind energy is not supported by actual performance data anywhere. The world is presently encumbered with over 60,000 industrial-scale wind turbines. In no venue – Germany, Spain, Denmark, California, Texas, Ontario – has wind been correlated with a reduction in CO2 emissions in the making of electricity. Yet, that is their reason-for-being.
Wind-generated electricity can be used in discrete locations, feeding into expensive storage batteries. But wind is relentlessly volatile, and when connected to the grid, it is destabilizing in ways that decrease the efficiencies and cleanliness of stable fossil power sources and increase a number of costs, including the CO2 emissions. Nowhere in the world has a coal plant been closed because of a wind project. So, why all the installations, here, there, and everywhere? The answer is in the money trail.
One would think that having something profitable to sell would be driving the push for these big, gleaming, and smokeless sculptures, owing to the production of a good, clean, useful product. But no: the profit is in the guaranteed high rate of return to the lucky industrial developer. It is subsidized almost wholly by ratepayers and taxpayers, who get almost nothing in exchange. On a kilowatt-hour basis, wind is by far the most heavily-subsidized source of power in the U.S., receiving 25 times more than coal, hydro and natural gas, despite not producing any capacity value, unlike the rest.
It gets worse. Consider the motives. Consider how and where your money is being funneled. Even a cursory examination exposes the connection between the public purse and certain political friendships with potential developers. A profit also accrues to vote-hungry governments who back these windy schemes, and who then look green to the uninitiated.
In the United States and elsewhere, the feckless wind energy produced is a front for the real business of generating tax schemes benefiting a few at the expense of the many, and playing havoc with the environment while claiming to save it. Disgraced Enron, which owned the nation's largest collection of wind facilities, pioneered the-tax-shelter-as-a-commodity. In pursuit of a financial bonanza, the wind industry fiercely resists any federal or state regulations guiding wind plant installations.
The same is happening here in Ontario. Two years ago, Ontario was already rewriting planning and environmental laws to weaken cautionary safeguards, in order to strengthen this rural industrial development. And now, Liberals McGuinty and Smitherman are touring the province promoting the further weakening of legislative oversight through the Green Energy Act. The plot unfolds predictably. Profits are being made without the public receiving the benefits expected – not power, not a cleaner environment, and not improved public health. This is truly a scandal of massive proportions.
NIMBY? Not In My Backyard? Not in anybody's backyard.

Attention LAW members;
George W. Bush, former President of the United States of America (U.S.) and Commander in Chief of the Armed Force, is reported to be coming to Calgary Alberta on March 17, 2009 to speak at a private function.
Evidence of Bush's involvement in torture and other war crimes and crimes against humanity has triggered Canada's legal duty to bar Bush from entering Canada and if he enters, to prosecute him for torture.
LAW has advised the Prime Minister of Canada, the Attorney General and the Ministers of Immigration, Public Safety and Foreign Affairs that George W. Bush is inadmissible to Canada under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. Section 35(1) (a) states that a foreign national is inadmissible on grounds of violating human or international rights or for committing an act outside Canada that constitutes an offence referred to in sections 4 to 7 of the Crimes against Humanity and War Crimes Act. Also inadmissiable (s.35 (1)(b)) are persons who are, or were, senior officials "in the service of a government that, in the opinion of the Minister, engages or has engaged in gross human rights violations…"
Under sections 4 to 7 of the Crimes Against Humanity and War Crimes Act:
"crimes against humanity" includes murder, enforced disappearance, deportation, imprisonment, torture, imprisonment or other severe deprivation of physical liberty in violation of fundamental rules of international law, committed against any civilian population or any identifiable group.
"war crime" includes willfull killing, torture and inhuman treatment, unlawful confinement, willfully depriving a prisoner of war or other protected person of fair trial rights, intentionally launching that the attack will cause incidental loss of life or injury to civilians or damage to civilian objects or widespread, long-term and severe damage to the natural environment which would be clearly excessive in relation to the concrete and direct overall military advantage anticipated.
If there are reasonable grounds to believe a person has been complicit in any of these crimes, entry to Canada must be denied. The Supreme Court of Canada says reasonable grounds are "something more than suspicion but less than … proof on the balance of probabilities."
