B.S.,  M.A., PHD.

B.S. is an abbreviation for more than one set of words.

When I read of the "American concerns " below it was not
those followed by Master of Art, Doctor of Philosophy that
came immediately into my mind.
I've no idea whether you read the articles on Afghanistan
posted on the Digest every day they are available.

Should you be doing so you will be aware that reality is not
being stated by our new chief of defence staff.  It may be he
has accepted a role prescribed for him by those to whom he
reports.

Jeffrey Simpson asked in his article to-day this question "Are
Canadians getting the truth about Afghanistan?"

The article ends with this sentence "Mr. Harper was right to
say the situation needs to be turned around, but he did not
suggest how. It would be instructive to know what he might
have in mind.
"

It's always easy to be a critic.  Making a suggestion means
sticking your neck out to have your head chopped off and
so is too often avoided.

What follows ends with a suggested course of action based on
the views of some closer the intricacies of the games being played.

Disagreement is anticipated, but as well are accompanying actions
that will have our men and women home for New Years Day 2012.

Joe

In that Implementation of government policy is now his duty are Gen. Natynczyk's statements his views or is he dutifully mouthing government policy?

In either case ought not consideration be given to adopting a policy of encouraging the Afghanistan's 'sons of the soil' and the Afghan Government negotiating an end to their internal conflict?

Without successfully following this course of action achieving the goal of Canadian Forces being out of Kandahar in 2011 is viewed as improbable by Canada's allies.

Joe--to read about law abiding people being deported from Canada read about
the latest ones to be deported
http://www.lfpress.com/perl-bin/publish.cgi?x=articles&p=238083&s=societe

"Actively depriving people of sleep"--do you mean that people who are unable
to sleep or eat and lose their homes are not in distress because of
government policies? The CPC government actively campaigned AGAINST
implementing Kyoto when they were in Opposition, now we are being told that
we will have to cut back on fuel and get smaller vehicles(with fat cheques
from the taxpayer as a reward) because of CO2! People in Ontario are losing
their jobs directly in response to this double-speak! People in Alberta are
paying more and more for energy because the Oil Companies are being
manipulated due to Kyoto. Across Canada we are told to expect to pay 45%
more for heating fuel. How many Canadians cannot afford this? We will be
freezing in the dark and our leaders have NO response. Is this not
deprivation? Mexico pays a subsidy for their fuel and Americans are going
down there to fill up!

As for the uproar re Khadr--the consensus on Roy Green's program yesterday
was LEAVE HIM THERE!!! Letter writing re Sampson's release was phenomenal
but no one listened to that. We wanted him freed but our msm didn't report
that because it was the Liberals that were doing NOTHING!
YES, the 'war' in Afghanistan IS about oil. The need for a pipeline from
the Caspian Sea to Israel goes directly through Afghanistan. That is the
'reason' for this 'war'. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with 'democracy or
kids going to school. Remember the angst over the dastardly Taliban
destroying those statues? Well, where was the angst when the US looted the
museum in Iraq? As per usual, those things we in the West decry the loudest
become the norm for us.

How soon we forget that al Qaida was a creation of the CIA, the Taliban
fought alongside the US to remove Russian troops from Afghanistan, the
Americans armed the Taliban, Karzai is an American stooge who formerly was a
bigwig at Haliburton, and the US is bombing the schools, you know the
schools that we are there to facilitate the girls attending? What about the
Palestinian children that are threatened by Israelis while they are going
to school? Oh, I forgot. We are not allowed to say that. Our PM has
stated that we are anti-semitic if we tell the truth about Israel.
Democracy, you say?

There is no way anyone from outside the US/israeli cabal bombed the WTCs.
Experienced pilots with many years of flying experience state there is no
way someone with 6 weeks of flight training could perform those twists and
turns and low flying stunts. The more we are lied to the bigger the lies
get and it seems the easier some swallow the garbage spouted.

Maybe the world would be a better place if we thought about the lies we are
swallowing and actually think for ourselves. Maybe we could have averted
the mess our children are dying for if we said NO to the lies and
manipulation? How much easier it is to point fingers at the Taliban than
admit that we have not yet reached the Bronze Age? After all, it is us that
have started every war in recent memory. It is our compliance with our
'leaders' spin and lies. It is other countries that we have decimated. And
then you wonder why they hate us. I hate us for what we have become. We
are the evil. We have the ability to say no and all we worry about is
Khadr--and that is just another spin our 'leaders' have devised to keep our
puny minds off of reality. It is us that have had our children, parents and
grandparents killed 'fighting' for our 'leaders'. What if we said NO! Let
the 'leaders' do their own dirty work. Our country is falling into economic
and moral depression and we tell others how to live? How wonderful of us!

From: "Anne Dickinson"

Regarding the Khadr case, I agree with Peter Robertson.. Of course the Canadian Government should have taken measures to move this former child soldier back to Canada before now.

. The Khadr Clan has  shown itself to be so hateful in so many ways in taking advantage of the safety and health services of Canada  while working for Al Qaeda, that it makes it easy for the government to stonewall. However. a  citizen is a citizen no matter who he is and how obnoxious his family;  he was a child when captured and he has been tortured. No other western  country has left their nationals in Guantanamo. The lack of action  makes  Canada look petty and unsure of its own independence.

Subject: Knives not the problem either

The U.K., like our Liberals, got over excited about guns a while back. Now, they are noticing that knives are even worse. The notion that neither are guilty, and its a social problem they'll have to solve, just doesn't occur to them. Sad.

That "joke" about the old man and the Marine at the White House is funny. Your comments are even funnier however how true they might be.

Indeed I am sure The President of the United States and even our Prime Minister dear Stephen Harper take everything these days as a slam. It might be a slam however they and many of us still forget we do have a right to our opinion (I think).

You see even I question my own remarks for fear today either one would not just take offence and have their storm troopers keeping eyes on me.

Today, we not only live in fear of terrorism from beyond our borders it seems we live in fear of those we elect as well.

What has happened to us in a few short years. Seems as if our opinion means nothing. I'm afraid if this keeps up we wont even have to vote. The decision will be made long before we get to the ballot box. Gee.. has this not happened in other countries and we thump our chests in defiance?

Will Bombardier ever work without hand outs? Ontario and Quebec's

The Khadar lad… IF he is guilty should be punished. We seem to forget he is accused by the very people who arrested him. Talk about a Police State. I wondered a while back about an Oregon Commissioner commenting "the Police only arrest the guilty.." (re Colton Calhoun in Oregon)

Seems to me the USA has started to economize and where the dear old Justice system! No need for a trial, Judge and heck why even a Jury!

IF the kid did what he is accused of yes he should be punished. I am afraid the way things are going "justice" is but a word and far too many of us forget an individual is entitled to a fair trial.

Oh remember too… one is presumed INNOCENT until proven guilty, right? Is that a part of the "great" American way too?

The way the US has it the kid is guilty because he was arrested. This mentality coupled with "convenient" changes to some laws finds far to many US citizens in prison today. What happened to the great US of A earning the right to their opinion by taking their case to an impartial Court of law?

Khadr is Canadian and in my opinion has the right to a fair and impartial trial. In my opinion and given the circumstances he should be tried in Canada. Will that happen NEVER… not as long as Harper continues to kiss the Presidents backside AND the fact\fear the US needs our oil!

I am sorry to say Canada is in lock-step with its US neighbour. Do not fear however we too will soon return to instant justice too. Instant justice.. a horse, a tall oak tree and a dude hanging from a noose!

Look at the money we could save and no more pesky lawyers to contend with too. We should not forget that was the American method to addressing crime many many years ago. Seems while things change the end result is nestled in history, right?

Subject: Afghanistan

Joe,
Whenever I am asked if Canadians ought to consider being in Afghanistan, picture me as a kid in Holland being handed candy by Canadian soldiers after WWII.  Anyone interested in what that entails, there is a recently published book I highly recommend.  The Probus Club of Ottawa Alta Vista printed my review in its most recent newsletter and can be viewed at http://www.probus.org/8ottwanw.pdf

For those who prefer the text up front, here it is:

"The story of why the Dutch respect Canada, and Canadians, is widely known.  The liberation of Holland by Canadian soldiers is forever remembered.  The sanctuary in Ottawa of the future Queen Juliana and the birth of her daughter Margriet at the Civic Hospital is often told.  Large-scale migration of Dutch residents to Canada after the war impacts our landscape to this day.  Think tulips, but not exclusively. Now a book has been published that ties these factors together in cohesive fashion.

"The Occupied Garden – Recovering the Story of a Family in the War-torn Netherlands" is written by sisters Kristen den Hartog and Tracy Kasaboski, Canadian granddaughters of Dutch origin.  The authors traveled back in time to uncover the character of their grandparents before the war, the grim determination to survive the atrocities inflicted on them during the war, and conditions leading to the fateful decision to move to Canada after the war.  The story is lovingly told.  While centered on family history, the story is infused with the impact that national, and international, events had on the family.
From a purely personal perspective, the story closely parallels that of my family, including family configuration, area of origin, profession, mode of travel (same year, same ship, and same original destination).  Readers, with other perspectives such as war service, war brides, etc., or no connection, are bound to form an even clearer appreciation of why things are the way they are between the Dutch and Canadians now, and for generations to come."

Subject: Fw: The End of the Anglo-American Empire? By Richard C. Cook

This pretty much summarizes our present predicament.
Our biggest Canadian problem right now is 'How to mitigate the damage that will be caused by our economic integration into the U.S. economy'.
One can only assume that our current Canadian and American leaders believe that Canada's resources in an N.A.U. may somehow rescue the sinking U.S. ship which has been deliberately scuttled through financial bubbles.
Or are they so beholden to the bankers and lobbyists that they can't change course?
They definitely need to be replaced by any possible means including mutiny.
