'Some of the ISPs have reduced the speed to customers doing massive file uploads during peak hours. Mostly it is aimed at file sharing as that uses huge amounts of bandwidth, especially if someone is very active. I'm not really sure where to come down on this one. The ISPs aren't stopping anyone, just slowing them down when the usage is very high. If they don't do that they they may well need to spend money on faster lines and more equipment, which would also translate into higher fees for everyone. I can see their point.

TWO DIFFERENT DOCTORS' OFFICES
Boy, if this doesn't hit the nail on the head, I don't know what does!TWO DIFFERENT DOCTORS' OFFICES
Two patients limp into two different medical clinics with the same complaint. Both have trouble walking and appear to require a hip replacement.
The FIRST patient is examined within the hour, is x-rayed the same day and has a time booked for surgery the following week.
The SECOND sees his family doctor after waiting 3 weeks for an appointment, then waits 8 weeks to see a specialist, then gets an x-ray, which isn't reviewed for another week
and finally has his surgery scheduled for 6 months from then.
Why the different treatment for the two patients?
The FIRST is a Golden Retriever.
The SECOND is a Senior Citizen.
Next time take me to a vet!

Lovers of the English language might enjoy this. It is yet another example of why people learning English have trouble with the language. Learning the nuances of English makes it a difficult language. (But then, that's probably true of many languages.)
There is a two-letter word in English that perhaps has more meanings than any other two-letter word, and that word is'UP.' It is listed in the dictionary as being used as an [adv], [prep], [adj], [n] or [v].
It's easy to understand UP, meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but when we awaken in the morning, why do we wake UP?
At a meeting, why does a topic come UP ? Why do we speak UP, and why are the officers UP for election and why is it UP to the secretary to write UP a report? We call UP our friends and we use it to brighten UP a room, polish UP the silver, we warm UP the leftovers and clean UP the kitchen. We lock UP the house and some guys fix UP the old car.
At other times the little word has a real special meaning. People stir UP trouble, line UP for tickets, work UP an appetite, and think UP excuses.
To be dressed is one thing but to be dressed UP is special.
And this up is confusing:
A drain must be opened UP because it is stopped UP.
We open UP a store in the morning but we close it UP at night. We seem to be pretty mixed UP about UP !
To be knowledgeable about the proper uses of UP , look the word UP in the dictionary. In a desk-sized dictionary, it takes UP almost 1/4 of the page and can add UP to about thirty definitions
If you are UP to it, you might try building UP a list of the many ways UP is used. It will take UP a lot of your time, but if you don't give UP, you may wind UP with a hundred or more.
When it threatens to rain, we say it is clouding UP . When the sun comes out we say it is clearing UP. When it rains, it wets UP the earth. When it does not rain for awhile, things dry UP.
One could go on & on, but I'll wrap it UP , for now. My time is UP.
Oh...one more thing:
What is the first thing you do in the morning & the last thing you do at night?
U P
Don't screw up.
Now I'll shut up

*Hey, Joe:
Now, I am no economist. Within minutes of entering such a discussion, my eyes start to glaze and I begin thinking about far away places. However, after reading about the end of Wall Street's Boom < http://www.portfolio.com/news-markets/national-news/portfolio/2008/11/11/The-End-of-Wall-Streets-Boom?tid=true#page2 >, it seems a lot of idiots and greedy SOB's went out of their way to screw the rest of us (though some got screwed themselves in the process). Too many of these financial "products" had nothing to do with the actual creation of goods and services, and everything about gambling and slight of hand. The way I see it, I would allow folks to buy shares and bonds in companies for the creation of goods and services, with dividends paid out from the profits to such investors. Every other damned financial product should be outlawed unless somebody can come up with a good argument as to why they should not. The creation of wealth should be based on the creation of goods and services, not on whims of pure bullshit.
Just a thought.
Ron.

Subject: Re: Just one more thing...
Hi Joe:
I love hypocrisy. I allows me the opportunity to think well of myself at the expense of self-serving bastards who tout one thing while practicing the other.
The latest examples of this? Well, we have Bob Geldolf picking up $100,000 for giving a speech in Australia about world suffering. What in hell does Geldolf know about suffering, other than a daughter who got married to some dude on a whim recently. Now, if he gave a speech on how to be a general write off as a parent, it might be worth a few bucks to hear. As it is, I'd be glad to fly down under for just $10,000, stay at a Motel 6, and even do some honest labor while I'm there to justify the expense. Just give me a call, mate.
Then we have the world leaders getting together to discuss the economic meltdown, while chugging back $500 per bottle wine. For a few diet cokes, and maybe a shot or two of Crown Royal, I would have been more than happy to join them. I'd still stay in a Motel 6.
One of my favorites took place this summer when Al Gore was giving his thoughts on global warming, all the while his SUV remained running and the air conditioning going full blast. Then again, if you pay carbon credits to allow you to do exactly what you tell others they should not do, even if the company you buy the credits from is one you also own, then it must be alright. I could be wrong, I don't think the venue of his little talk was a Motel 6 either.
Of course, hypocrisy is just a fancy word for bullshit. I prefer the original term, myself.
