From: Ron Thornton

Hi Joe:

Less than 100 Canadian soldiers have died in Afghanistan over the past six years. On D-Day, 340 Canadian soldiers died on that single 1944 day. On September 11, 2001, 24 Canadians were killed in the terror attacks in the United States. I believe these are factual figures.

Prior to the fall of 2001, the Taliban ruled Afghanistan. Let us just say that life was severely restricted and sports fans, entertainers, and women did not do well under their control. This has changed under the present regime. In all probability, those gains would be reversed if the forces supporting that government withdraws and the government falls.
It is one consideration.

Should this government fall, what would be the consequences to them and to us? If the void is _*not filled*_ by those who hate our customs and norms (including those freedoms we hold dear), who have no problems with fostering and supporting within their own borders those who would again make attacks on our shores, who won't enforce a way of life most of us would find totally repugnant, then let us bring these Canadian boys and girls home today.

If the void is to be filled by those who do very much want to do us harm, then please explain your thoughts on what should be our exit strategy and what we might expect to be the consequences of our retreat.

Thanks.

Ron.

One CPC slogan is "Working for you"
They don't say who that WHO is.

A small article in the Vancouver Sun is referring to Harper's statement of
ending the military in Afghanistan in 2011.
This decision was made  to buy votes in Quebec, as Quebecois
do oppose the Canadian efforts to help that country to become a
democracy. Mr.Jim Davies did oppose this message for 2011 based
on the dead of his son.
Politics make strange bedfellows when in need. The sell out continues.

Subject: New banking laws

Joe--today my granddaughter opened a bank account.  She is 17 years old.
She had to fill out forms with the bank that are similar to what is mentioned in the article below.  I cannot find anything on line that these new laws apply to new bank accounts.  The bank was insistant on her filling out what was needed.  The bank stated that it gives the government the right to check out any bank account without a warrant etc.  This is to supposedly prevent money laundering also.  You also have to declare if you have a relative who is part of any foreign government!  Isn't it interesting.
People from Poland are going to be allowed to visit without a Visa but the government has to watch our bank accounts?
Have you heard anything aobut this banking step?

Subject: What is the answer for erratic fuel price fluctuation?

Joe,
A sudden jump in gasoline prices at the pump, prompted by the hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico, got me thinking.
Yes, we ought to reduce our dependence on vehicles, especially gas guzzlers, but what about a price insurance scheme?

Just like I have a contract to buy natural gas for a fixed price, for a fixed number of years, couldn't a public agency arrange a fixed price for a region?  Everyone could have piece of plastic that entitles them to X amount of gasoline per year, in the region, at the decided price.

We could ask Harper about it, since years ago he promised that, if elected, he would do something about the fuel price problem.  Or maybe Dion would bring back Petro Canada to use as a public-interest  price-shaper?
